Grace R. Duncan's Top 5 Non-M/M Books

I’ve been reading (or trying) since I could hold a book. My mother was always a reader and passed that love onto me. So, I’ve been losing myself in other worlds for a very long time—long before I even knew the gay romance genre exists (long before it did exist, unless you count Kirk/Spock fanfic).

I started out, of course, reading YA—mostly suspense. Over the years, that broadened. I read horror, suspense, thrillers, romance, fantasy, you name it. But in all those, there are a few I go back to regularly. Thus, my Top 5 *non* M/M books:

1. The Lord of the Rings (I can’t really pick one, it’s really all one book.)
2. Harry Potter (See above. It’s really one full story, though if I have to pick my favorite out of the series, it’d be Order of the Phoenix for the pure emotion poor Harry deals with.)
3. The Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flanagan (this is also a series, but the first book could be called my favorite of the series, only because even as an adult, I could see myself in poor Will.)
4. The Stand by Stephen King (Much of my current dystopian was inspired by this one. I have a signed copy from King that was rather battered when he signed it and he commented about how “well-loved” it was. I will treasure that for the rest of my life!)
5. The Chesapeake Bay series by Nora Roberts (I honestly don’t remember each individual one. Nora has inspired a lot of my romance and this series made me laugh so much!)

Honorable mention: The In Death series by J.D. Robb. I still go back to these. Even Dallas is an amazing character and I absolutely adore her.
