Review: The Boys on the Mountain

Katie, a NetGalley reviewer, shares her thoughts on John Inman's "The Boys on the Mountain".

The Boys on the Mountain follows the story of Jim, an author of several horror novels, and his friends, as they try to fight back against evil. When Jim buys a secluded house in the mountains near San Diego, he had heard the rumors of it being haunted. But nothing could have prepared him for the things he saw. Jim must learn of the truly horrible things that happened in that house back in the 40's. When his friends come to stay with him and try to help him in vanquishing the evil that lives in the house, all of their lives are in jeopardy.

Holy cow! I don't even know how to begin reviewing this book! This was the first book I've read by this author, and also the first in the genre as well. I felt so many different emotions throughout this book. It was funny at times and truly horrifying at others. I could be laughing one minute and then trying not to cry the next. There were times that it literally chilled me to the bone. The book was really beautifully written and provided so many emotions. I've never read a book like it and don't know that I'll ever find another that was written as well as this was. That ending though. I was definitely not expecting that in the least and I don't even know what to say about it. Overall this was a very unique read, and it captures you from page one all they way through the end. I would definitely recommend, but not to the faint hearted because parts of this book are truly heartbreaking and gut wrenching. It's definitely not a book for everybody, but I am so happy to have come across it.
